Bit of a frustrating weekend at the Oppies Inlands for our Juniors

inlands

Three of our club junior sailors travelled to Grafham this weekend for the Optimist Inland Championships. Saturday started with a nice 14knot wind which gradually reduced over the day. Sunday was forecasted to be very light (if any) wind which meant we were expecting a day of no sailing. Fortunately the breeze did eventually arrive with a very fickle and light 6 knots on the race course.

Kamran and Jacob were taking part in Regatta Fleet and scored 34 and 37 respectively in a fleet of 46 sailors. Great result for both in their first major event away from the club, with Kamran posting a 21st in the light winds on day 2.

Meanwhile in main fleet with the weather forecast for Sunday the race officer tried to get 4 races in on Saturday but the wind wasn't playing its part and the sailors were sent back to shore. Sunday started with a waiting game with the water totally flat! Over the weekend Chloe came away with 118 place, struggling with the light and shifty stuff on the 2nd day. Cheers were heard afloat when the 6th race was postponed and then abandoned.

During June Chloe will be travelling to the South coast to try and get some sea based opens before the Nationals in Largs.

The next event in the Midlands will be the Midland Championships on the 13th and 14th July at Barnt Green and it would be great to see more of our Optimist sailors with us.
