Chloe going well in Draycote

Cardiff 2013 117

Whilst some of our sailors were competing in the Draycote Dash, one of our younger sailors was at Datchet competing in the IOCA Winter Champs. As a number of MOT dads have a habit of getting the 2 sailing clubs mixed up, thankfully they arrived at the correct one!
There was a nice level of wind on the Saturday and not too cold, so nice conditions all in all. The thought of being out all day meant that for the first real time this winter Chloe found herself in a drysuit – and then she ended up too warm!
Chloe had an enjoyable day. With no pressure (nothing was riding on the result of the event) she could just sail her hardest and enjoy herself. This paid off, comfortably finding herself in Gold Fleet at the end of the day with 30, 20 and 11. I think the highlight of the day for her though was seeing her friend lead the pack and finish 2nd in the last race of the day.
Sunday unfortunately was much lighter wind. Being in Gold Fleet, it meant that she was now racing against the top half of the sailors rather than a mix, so always a tougher sail! She still managed a 28th in one of the races, finishing 42nd overall. She was the highest placed sailor from the north of the country.
