Great results for Staunton Harold Sailors at the Fireball Worlds!

Yandy 63809Well done Tim Saunders and Richard Pepperdine who acheived 7th and 9th respectively in a fleet of 59 boat at the Fireball Worlds held in Sligo.
Tim was sailing with double Lark National Champion, Alan Krailing from Waldringfield, who had sailed a Fireball a handful times before - but clearly proving that with the Chairman on the wire they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Fireball fleet this year. (Bear in mind that Becky's Lark helm, Emma, also came from Waldringfield - might just be a coincidence)

They nearly finished in the top 5, narrowly missing out because of a capsize down the last run of the last race - at least half of the top ten capsized on this run in over 30 knots of breeze.
Richard, sailing with former Fireball champion Tim Rush, finished 9th overall. They started the regatta well with several top ten results, but a black flag later in the week meant they couldn't discard some results in the teens and increasing their overall score.
The 2 Staunton Harold crews were separated only by the legendary Vince Horey in the overall results.
Generally the weather was wet and sometimes windy, as was predicted for the west coast of Ireland at this time of year. The event was won by former national champions Matt Burge and Richard Wagstaff - this is Richard's second world title, the first being with Matt Mee in Thailand in March 2008. I wonder if there is another talented 'Matt' out there ready to helm Waggers to a third title!
