IOCA Late Summer Champs

Jason Felton Oppie Champs

IOCA Late Summer Champs at Hayling Island was definitely a game of two halves. Saturday was challenging to say the least, even for the top sailors. Gusts of around 30 knots of southwesterly caused metre high waves. Combined with poor visibility (and possibly the effects of the channel!), racing was delayed. They managed to get out and complete two races, though only about two thirds of the fleet were able to get a result in the second race. Jacob was delighted to discover that, even though he was at the back of the fleet, he came 50th!

Racing was then delayed on Sunday - this time due to a lack of wind.... Again they managed to complete two races, which meant that the sailors got their discard. Jacob had an excellent day, making the most of shifts, pulling in 31st and 19th.

Jacob had a good weekend, sailing well in a range of conditions, he also had lots of fun with his sailing friends between races. He finished in 69th overall in the 2nd of the ranking events of the year. Congratulations!
