IOCA Midland Champs - 4th and 6th place finishes for Staunton!

Barnt - Jacob

Staunton's Thomas and Jacob travelled to Barnt Green for their open and the IOCA Midland Champs. The sun shone but with the sunshine came little breeze. Barnt Green is always a tricky place to sail, but this was particularly challenging. It was a day of on the water snakes and ladders, with big gains and losses to be made and the majority of the fleet taking a turn at leading a race.

Jacob started off well with a brilliant start and lead, but dropped right down following a shift after the first leg. Similarly, he went from near the back to the lead at one point in race 2 after a tactical decision to go left paid, finishing 3rd in the end.

Tom had consistency with two 6ths, sailing well in both races. Going into race 3, there was still a lot to play for. Jacob had a good start, battling it out with Hollowell's Iris Singleton for a large proportion of the race before a handful of other sailors including Tom got involved in the action and overtook him. Eventually it ended up as a battle between Jacob and Banbury's George Eames Matthews for both the race and event win. There was literally centimetres in it as George crossed the line first, resulting in 4th place overall for Jacob with just 1 point separating the first 4 sailors. Tom took a 4th to finish 6th overall.
