Sailability Day

Sailability 2014

On a very stormy Saturday, Staunton Harold welcomed members of the local disabled community for our annual Sailability Day.  This was organised through the local support group,  Umbrella Derby & Derbyshire.  The weather conditions unfortunately meant that we couldn’t take anyone out sailing, so instead we laid on a number of power-boats to take the youngsters and their families out on the water.  They had a choice of trip around the reservoir in our stable (and relatively dry) Seahog, or one of the more exciting (and extremely wet) RIBs.  Most seemed to pick the RIBs.
Once again, the visitors had a great time and got to experience the pleasures of messing around in boats, even though the weather could have been kinder.  The day was organised by Mark Harden and Kev Needham, with an enthusiastic group of volunteers to manage the event off and on the water.
For the youngsters who would have liked to sail, this year Mark and Kev are organising some additional Sailability events at SHSC when hopefully the wind will be a bit gentler and they can try out our dinghies.
