SHSC at the Fireball UK and French Nationals

SHSC had two boats represented at Pentewan Sands SC nr St.Austell. with most people staying a few minutes walk from the club this proved to be a great sailing and social week, especially when combined with a cheap bar.  Winter storms had made launching from the now rather steep beach interesting, but everyone go stuck in, pulling boats back up the beach at the end of the day. On the water the wind was on and off, but 8 great races were sailed in generally sunny and wavey  conditions, 2 huge squalls the exceptions! 3 points separated the top 3 overall, with Chips Howarth and Richard Anderton taking the title.  Class Chairman Tim Saunders was crewing for Lark Champion Alan Krailing placed 9th overall. "Team Entourage" Simon Kelsall and Tom Williamson, had a good week winning the Brixham trophy and placing 2nd in the Silver fleet.
Next year for its 50th Anniversary the class heads back to Cornwall to Penzance Sailing Club. Dates are the 11th -17th August. One not to be missed!

French Nationals at Val Andre
Afforded the Grand National status this attracted 58 boats from FRA, CZE, BEL, GBR and SUI.  Light but sunny conditions made for tricky racing and some high scores! The week was dominated by the Czech's who took the top 3 places overall.  Becky and Tim managed 12th place in their new boat.  As always with the French Nationals the food was great and there were many post races drinks, with the local favourite of sparkling cider and cassis making a regular appearance. It was fitting then that the final prize giving was held at the local casino overlooking the beach. It wasn't difficult to see why Val Andre had previously hosted the Fireball Worlds and multiple French Championships!
