Staunton Harold Sailing Club welcomes new Commodore

Staunton welcomes new commodore

Staunton Harold Sailing Club  (SHSC) welcomed its first lady Commodore as Lesley Foskett took over at the helm at the end of 2014. Lesley took over from outgoing Commodore, Nick Waters who has provided excellent leadership at the club since 2011.

Lesley has been a member of the club since 1991, and has played an active committee role at the club for 15 years. She sails a Fireball with her husband Andy who has just stepped down as Rear Commodore Sailing.

Lesley is the first SHSC Lady Commodore and takes over as the club enters its 40th anniversary year. Lesley and Andy were recipients of a national RYA Community award presented by HRH Princess Anne November 2013.

Over the last few years the club has been fortunate in receiving several Sport England grants and with the hard work of many has improved its facilities and grown the membership by inspiring people to sail. Lesley’s focus for the next few years will be to continue to develop and improve the sailing opportunities whether training or recreational whilst remaining community focused and encouraging people to become involved in the sport.

Commenting on her new role Lesley said; 'I was thrilled to be nominated as Commodore of SHSC. Nick has worked extremely hard over the last three years driving the club forwards. The RYA Club of the Year award, which the club was awarded last year, was a testament to the efforts of many, an appreciated and valued award that has inspired interest in sailing at SHSC. I look forward to working with the new committee over the next few years.”

Outgoing Commodore, Nick Waters who will remain an active member of the committee congratulated Lesley on her new role commenting; “It’s been a real privilege to have been Commodore of this great sailing club for the past three years. I’m delighted that the club has continued to thrive and winning the prestigious RYA Club of the Year last year was the icing on the cake. I’d like to thank the committee and members for all their hard work that has made this possible and I’m sure that under Lesley’s leadership the club will continue on its successful path.”
