Staunton Harold SC holds annual Sailability Day

Sailability - 9th May

Staunton Harold SC has once again teamed up with Derby charity, Umbrella, to give children and young people with disabilities the chance to experience the joys of getting out on the water for the day. No fewer than 86 Umbrella youngsters, boys and girls aged between eight and 17 along with their helpers and parents, took part in Staunton Harold’s annual Sailability Day on 9th May.

All the youngsters had behavioural or learning difficulties or physical disabilities and all were escorted by parents or carers as they went afloat with the club’s experienced volunteers on what turned out to be a very windy but highly successful day.

The club's band of volunteers who gave up their free time once again to support the event ferried our guests around the reservoir in the clubs fleet of power boats ensuring that plenty of happy smiling faces returned to the jetty.

Weather conditions on the day were not favourable and whilst the rain held off the white horses on the water meant that a limited amount of sailing was possible but for those who braved it in the corner by the play area it was a triumph, with a number of them signing up for future Staunton Harold Sailability sessions.
