Staunton Harold success at the RYA Youth National Championships

RYA National Youth Championships 2015

Staunton Harold was well represented at the RYA Youth Nationals which was held earlier this month, at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPSNA). Racing took place across Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour. Conditions were not great sailing, with very light winds and the best wind day being abandoned thanks to fog!

Congratulations go to Ellie Craig in her Laser Radial and Sam Smith sailing a 420 (with James Clemetson) who have both been selected for team GBR teams later this year.

Sam will be competing in the 420 worlds in Japan, as already reported on this website.

Ellie has qualified for the European Youth Laser Radial championships to be held in Portugal, in July. During the qualifying events Ellie was racing against adults, as well as youth sailors, including finding herself next to Olympic sailor Ali Young on the start line at one event! These have been very different events to the junior and youth only racing as they don’t have the same hesitation about sending you out in extreme conditions – welcome to adult classes!

She has also been selected to compete in Warnamunde in Germany and Poland, representing team GBR in the Laser Europa Cup events in July.

Well done to all our sailors who took part in the RYA Youth Nationals:

420 - Ella Stoggall-Carsington & Emma Kindon SHSC, James Clemetson & Sam Smith-SHSC

Laser Radial - Ellie Craig, Matt Luxton and Rebecca Grimshaw

Laser Standard - Sam Grimshaw
