Staunton's Chloe Felton competes in the 420s Spring Champs

420s Hayling Island

Whilst most of Staunton were dancing the night away at the Charity Ball, Chloe Felton and her crew Saskia Taylor were at Hayling Island for the 420s Spring Champs. A total of 37 boats were there, including a couple of Irish boats, for the second part of the selection series.

Saturday was pretty much perfect sailing weather - the sun was shining and there was a nice F4-5 breeze. Chloe and Saskia had a slow start again, getting their discard in race 1! Race two saw them improve, pulling in a top 20 result. The day's racing finished with two more races and two 27ths for the Felton/ Taylor team.

The weather on Sunday followed the forecast, with the 420s launching in wind which unfortunately dropped off before racing began. They got a very light wind race in before waiting yet again for some wind. Eventually a slight sea breeze kicked in to allow two more races. Once again the Staunton boat had a good second race of the day with a 15th place, giving them a respectable 28th overall.

Izi Davies and Gemma Keers led the racing throughout with six race wins - putting them on 6 points to win, with the second placed boat of Hatty Morsley and Pippa Cropley on 18 points.
