Staunton's Paul Moughtin- Leay takes a bullet under the gaze of royalty!

Paul ML

Great result for Stauton's Paul Moughtin-Leay at the RYA Youth Nationals Championships 2017 at Hayling Island from 8th-14th April in the Laser Radial Boys Class.
Paul finished 20th overall in a 53 strong fleet, but most spectacular of all was his Race 11 bullet where he beat all the current youth squad and the rest of this high calibre fleet in his 29 year old Laser. He also did it in style, choosing the race when Princess Anne was on the finish line to witness his win!
The race was so close that Paul didn’t know he'd won until he got ashore.
Paul had an amazing 5 day event - with a number of top 20 finishes. Fantastic results given that he has been very ill all year and unable to train. His 20th overall was thanks to some very smart sailing, and huge reserves of determination. Congratulations to Paul and good luck at the major competitions coming up!
Paul has qualified for the Laser Youth Europeans in Gdynia, Poland and the Laser Youth Worlds in Mdemblik - well done!
Anyone who knows Paul, won't have failed to notice younger brother John, who managed a quick chat with Princess Anne as she came ashore at the Hayling Island event - photographed for posterity.
