Powerboat Training Courses

During 2011 we aim to run a programme of powerboat courses for club members.

Safetyboat TrainingRYA National Powerboat Certificate (Level 1/2)

This course is designed to teach you the basic skills and background knowledge to become a competent powerboat driver. No previous experience is needed. You'll be taught in both planing and displacement craft. The course content includes launching and recovery, boat handling at low and high speed and seamanship skills such as man over board. Certificates at Level 1 or 2 are awarded at the end of the 2 day course at the discretion of the Chief Instructor.

The level 2 certificate is the minimum club requirement to enable members to drive club boats whilst on rescue duty. This certificate also forms the basis of the test for the International Certificate of Competence required by drivers of powerboats in many other countries.

The next course will be run November/December 2011 - dates to be confirmed.

SafetyboatSafety Boat Certificate

This 2 day course aims to introduce the techniques used in powerboats escorting racing fleets of dinghies and windsurfers, providing safety and rescue cover for training fleets and assisting in race management. You must already hold the level 2 National PB Certificate and have subsequent driving experience in order to participate on this course. It is also strongly recommended that safety boat drivers hold a current first aid certificate.

The next course will be run on May 5th, 7th and 12th but this is full.

The next available course will be run in November 2011 - dates to be confirmed.
