Cruising
Information
With 130 acres of water available for sailing and an open
aspect, Staunton Harold reservoir offers the cruiser a great place
to sail, with a well-equipped and comfortable club house, large
boat park and a family friendly atmosphere. The club is open all
year, so even the hardy cruisers are fully catered for. In the peak
sailing season, the water is open for cruising on five days a week,
with Thursday and Friday evenings reserved exclusively for cruising
and training. Even when racing is in progress, the water is large
enough to accommodate both cruisers and racers without feeling
congested. Safety cover is provided whenever the water is open.
Alongside the cruising calendar, the club offers a well-supported
social calendar, and the bar is usually open for a post sail
drink.
For 2011 we are planning to run several cruising events to other
waters in conjunction with other sailing clubs, to give our
cruising members a little variety and the chance to sail as a group
on new waters. Details and dates TBC soon.
If you don't own your own boat, the club has a fleet of boats
available for members to hire, and can connect you with other
sailing members who are looking for a crew or helm, either as a one
off or a regular partnership. A great way to learn to sail and make
new friends.
