The Friday
night club is due to start on the 6th May and run through to Sept
2nd
There will now be an opportunity to come along to the club on a
Friday evening to have a sail or just relax and have a drink or BBQ
with friends in beautiful surroundings. We would like Friday
evenings at the club to be a way of having fun on and off the
water.
The bar will, of course, be open.
Apart from cruising and relaxing there will be opportunities to
get helpful advice on getting boats back on the water aimed at
cruising i.e. general rigging tips and general support.
For the juniors there will be race coaching run for all fleets.
We recommend that our junior squad sailors come along and practice
their skills on Friday nights.
Many fleet captains have organised social evenings and on-water
training evenings on Friday nights.
For the racers after sailing there will be sailing DVDs
and talks.
As ever on Friday nights there is the "Beat the Stig"
competition! The idea is that members of the club can sail a preset
course on any Friday evening the idea is to sail the course in the
quickest time. I.e. You have to sail up to number one hit it with
your hand which will start the timer (someone on the shore will
need to time) they then sail the preset course. The time is then
applied to the normal handicap rules to give you your "Stig" time.
Competitors will have to pay £1 minimum (donated to the commodores
charity) and the prize will be a half day's coaching. We will have
the times on the board in the club. They get to choose when
they sail the course so they can choose the wind direction,
strength etc. The course can be sailed on any Friday night between
May and September but has to be independently timed. (Need to
decide on official timers due to the reputation of the fireball
fleet!!).
